Aurora Soup Kitchen
The aroma from a nutritious kettle of homemade soup can warm the coldest day. The array of delicious foods offered by caring volunteers at the Aurora Soup Kitchen signifies compassion to the hundreds of guests who share the bounty at this Hesed House ministry.
For over a decade, volunteers have dished up tasty noon meals for persons in the Aurora area who need food and companionship, hallmarks of the Soup Kitchen.
Volunteers and immense community support are the backbone of this effort. Food to feed the masses often miraculously appears just as the supply has dwindled. Crowds of up to 300 are fed every Monday and Friday by this ambitious group of volunteers.
Not content to “just” provide a meal, loyal Soup Kitchen volunteers offer hospitality, smiles, and genuine concern for their noontime guests.
Many Soup Kitchen patrons are on fixed incomes. School holidays cause an influx of young faces who obviously enjoy the food and atmosphere at Hesed House. Homeless people also know that they are welcome at the Soup Kitchen.
Like other ministries at Hesed House, the Soup Kitchen receives generous support from a variety of faith communities, area businesses, and individuals. Some government food is also available.
Soup Kitchen leaders know that they cannot rest in their quest for food and supplies to feed the hungry, but they also know they have managed to nourish persons hungry for food and companionship for over 20 years.
